OneNorwich Practices Ltd. PCN team took on the challenge to become a key player in keeping the UK population safe during the coronavirus pandemic through offering an unprecedented vaccination service in three different locations across Norwich as well as providing practice workforce resilience and allowing surgeries to focus on direct patient care.
The service launched in December 2020 and has since vaccinated in excess of 200,000 patients to date. During this time, a great number of housebound patients, care home residents and staff have been vaccinated off-site. To ensure every person had access to the programme, out-of-hour clinics were set up at a number hostels, mosques and homeless settings.
Now, we continue to vaccinate patients for their first and second doses for those who have not yet received the full course and we have also started phase 3 of the programme with booster doses being delivered across multiple GP surgeries across Norwich. This success has benefited both patients and practices involved.
The service has been delivered primarily by ONP staff, especially those employed through the ARR scheme such as pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physician associates, occupational therapists, dietitians, care coordinators, etc. Furthermore, it has been a collaborative piece of work, working alongside staff from the practices in Norwich as well as a wide range of volunteers who have all contributed to running a smooth service. From police and fire brigade members to retired healthcare professionals, all have been a great support in rolling out the programme.
