GP Front Door

The GP Front Door Service was set up in collaboration with North Norfolk Primary Care and South Norfolk HealthCare in December 2019. The main objective of the service was to reduce the footfall through the Emergency Department (ED) and offer patients an alternative appointment, with a GP or ANP, if ED was not the correct pathway for their presentation. Since the start of the pilot we have seen over 14,000 patients, reducing the pressure on ED by taking away those patients who are presenting with more minor problems.

The service is currently run seven days a week from 09.00 – 21.00 and is usually staffed by a GP and an ANP. We have recently introduced a third clinician to the service to increase capacity and are working with the ED to ensure patients are appropriately streamed.

We are currently in the process of planning a rotation model for the clinical and administrative teams to work within the different clinical services across OneNorwich Practices.

The service is still currently running as a pilot, however we are recruiting a clinical lead to help with our collaborative governance framework and to evolve the service in collaboration with system partners as part of the emergency and urgent care agenda.
